[PRESS RELEASE] Facing The Gallows Release Video For Doom II

Photography by Mike Bell

Facing The Gallows Drop 2nd Single and Video from Forthcoming New Album Dead Mindset

Facing The Gallows release the video for Doom II today, taken from their soon to be released new album Dead Mindset.

As with the video for Tides of Terror, Doom II was shot by their DOP Mike Bell of Capitol Collective and directed and edited by guitarist Chase Beynon.

Simply put, the song is about getting OTJ (on the jol). The lyrics speak about living for yourself in the present, and going balls to the wall partying. We tried to capture this by shooting a full blown, good ol fashioned, house party filled with our closest friends that have supported us since the beginning. Music is something that is meant to be shared, and we feel incredibly grateful to have so many amazing friends and family that love and support the music we have written. Thank you to our bassist Ray and his house mates for letting us turn their humble home into a film set/party/show we will never forget! We hope people will get OTJ with us, and feel the vibe and excitement we felt when filming this music video. – Chase Beynon

Dead Mindset releases on the 20th February 2018.

[PRESS RELEASE] ARMONITE SIGNS WITH CLEOPATRA RECORDS

Italian Instrumental Rock Band Armonite Set To Release New Album

Armonite, the instrumental rock collective led by composer Paolo Fosso and violinist Jacopo Bigi, signed with LA-based indie label Cleopatra Records for the release of their new album, And the Stars Above.

Armonite’s instrumental music is perfectly in line with the spirit of the label, especially now that Cleopatra expanded in the movie industry.

With the film division Cleopatra Entertainment, the company has distributed, developed, and produced several films most of which have a strong horror and/or music component, including The Devil’s Domain (starring Michael Madsen), The Black Room (starring Lin Shaye), Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill! (featuring the voice of Dave Mustaine from Megadeth), The 27 Club (featuring Todd Rundgren), England Is Mine (Steven Morrissey bio-pic), A Street Cat Named Bob.

“Working with Cleopatra has been great,” says Fosso, “They’re skilled and competent, I’m sure they will take Armonite to the next level.

I’ve always been a great lover of movies and videogames, I was just moving forward to the composition of soundtrack music, so this collaboration comes right on cue.”

As with the previous album, And the Stars Above is an instrumental mix of electric violin, keyboards, bass, and drums with focus on the amazing and powerful electric violin, performed by Jacopo Bigi.

Interpreting the music composed by keyboardist Paolo Fosso, Armonite also performs with bassists Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) and Alberto Fiorani, along with drummers Corrado Bertonazzi, Emiliano Cava, and Jasper Barendregt.

The sound of the album is more oriented to soundtrack music with textures that feel very immediate. “We consume tons of music every day, we can’t just stick to one genre”, says Fosso, “generally speaking, the album is rock, but with this idea of soundtrack music.”

Throughout the album, lingers a ghostly female voice, appearing and disappearing here and there before fully emerging in the band’s first song with lyrics, “Clouds Collide”. The track tells the story of a girl between time and memories.

And the Stars Above is a journey through 12 tracks, starting with “The March of the Stars” inspired by Dante’s Paradise and ending with “Ghosts”. The album also features two bonus tracks- a polyrhythmic piece for piano solo, ‘The Fire Dancer’, and the String Quartet “A Playful Day”.

“We’re confident this is going to be a great release, with a rather peculiar view,” says Fosso, “The Sun is New Each Day had a heavy compact sound… And the Stars Above is groovy, with different vibes across a bunch of genres. There’s something indie in this new sound that we’ve never explored before and it’s kind of sexy for us!”

‘And the Stars above’ is set to be released in late Spring.

Track List:

  1. The March of the Stars
  2. Next Ride
  3. District Red
  4. Plaza de España
  5. Clouds collide
  6. Blue Curaçao
  7. By heart

Babylon) – drums

Jacopo Bigi also plays viola (District Red, Ghosts) and ukulele (By the Waters of Babylon).

He whistles on ‘Freaks’ and plays both violins and viola on ‘A Playful Day’.

Composer Paolo Fosso and violinist Jacopo Bigi are classical-trained, but “classical” is not how they would describe themselves. Through their teenage years, they joined a few local bands playing a variety of genres and artists, from the Beatles to Dream Theater.

At the end of the ’90s, while still in college, they would play in a band called Armonite. They released an album in 1999, performed a few dates live, and then split up.

In 2015, they formed a new band while borrowing the name of their old one. When they had enough tracks to make an album, they hired Porcupine Tree‘s bassist, Colin Edwin and Dutch drummer Jasper Barendregt for the recording, which took place remotely.

The first producer of Muse, Paul Reeve, accepted the offer to produce the entire work, with mastering at the Abbey Road Studios in London. Their album “The Sun is New each Day” was released in June 2015.

On September 21, Armonite performed at Expo 2015Milano for “The Water Rooms” Official Launch organized by UNESCO. After their performance in Bettmeralp, Switzerland, at an elevation of 2,000 meters (6,500 ft), the band toured UK in mid-July 2016.

Armonite has published the videos of a few soundtrack renditions from the most popular video games and movies: Game of Thrones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, The Exorcist, Suspiria, Skyrim, Final Fantasy,  Halo, Metal Gear Solid, The Witcher, and many many others…!

Band Members

Byron Muller – Bass / Guitar

Lloyd Mckeen – Guitar / Bass

Chad Snell – Guitar

Slade du Randt – Drums

KOI formed in back in 2012 when Byron invited a whole bunch of us around for a jam session at his place in Brakpan, South Africa. Initially they would just get together every 6 weeks or so at his place and set up in the living room and just jam all day and have a braai, there was no structure to what they were doing, everyone would just go and pick an instrument when they saw fit and create some improvisational tunes.

The inspiration was purely just the want to play some music together, no specific goal or sound, just whatever transpired organically.

Initially the session became known as the KOI sessions, an acronym for the Kings of Improv, more of a jam session than a specific band. After about a year there was eventually only the same four guys rocking up to the sessions, Byron, Chad, Lloyd and founding drummer Stefan Roodt. Before they knew it songs were forming.

During 2013 they started getting together more frequently to start getting their set together for the gigging circuit.

They played our first gig in 2014 at a friend’s farm in Pomona, and after that it was just a case of getting out there and playing as many shows as possible.

Stefan left the band in late 2014 to pursue other endeavours and so that left a spot for someone new to join. About 6 months later new drummer Slade joined the band.

They decided to change the improv to improg, just because it rolled off the tongue so nicely, and is an amalgamation of improv and prog.

Anthe rest is as they say is history.

[NEWS] Red Helen team up with Turning Tricks Entertainment!

PRESS RELEASE

Red Helen teams up with Turning Tricks Entertainment

Turning Tricks Entertainment are no strangers to the local and international rock and metal scene. As proud curators of the increasingly popular Krank’d Up music festival and promoters of unforgettable shows that have seen the likes of TesseracT and Karnivool grace South African stages in recent years, Turning Tricks Entertainment have their ears firmly to the ground of the current international rock and metal landscape.

The next chapter in the company’s story sees a focus on helping South African talent increase their reach globally. That roll out already began last year when the company secured a festival billing for alternative rock band, Deity’s Muse when they performed at the annual Euroblast Festival in Germany. Now the team at Turning Tricks is delighted in adding South Africa’s progressive metalcore giants, Red Helen to their illustrious stable.

“It has taken us 7 years to sign a new band because we feel that if we are going to work with a band or artist, that artist needs to inspire us as much as we inspire them. Red Helen is a hard working act and has what it takes to take on the international stage” beams an excited Duncan Bell, director of Turning Tricks Entertainment.

Since their inception in late 2008, Red Helen’s star has been rising at a rapid pace. They won the South African leg of the Wacken Metal Battle in 2014 which saw them compete internationally at Wacken Open Air festival in Germany in that same year. In recent times the band has wowed audiences on revered local festival stages such as Oppikoppi Festival and Krank’d Up, and was chosen as one of the support acts for TesseracT’s South African tour in 2017.

Armed with an exceptional debut album (2017’s acclaimed “Trading Past for Pathways”) and experience in buckets, Red Helen is ready for new heights.

[NEWS] Facing The Gallows release new album!

Facing The Gallows release album Dead Mindset

“We didn’t have a concept like filth.  We wanted to broaden our music videos and not rely on a story in every one of them to present the music.

We went for a simple band performance video. No bells no whistles. Just the song and the band rocking out. With the other videos that will be released in the future having a band performance video felt right on the list of band things to do.” Facing The Gallows

Facing The Gallows is a metal band from Johannesburg, South Africa. Formed by vocalist Bryan Binneman, bassist Rayner Abraham and guitarist Chase Beynon in 2007. INCUBUS are coming to SA!

INCUBUS are coming to SA!

Multi-platinum alt-rock icons Incubus, are coming to tour South Africa for the first time in February 2018. The Californian rockers released their eighth album this year, aptly named 8, and are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first major label album S.C.I.E.N.C.E with a world tour.

The South African leg of the tour will kick off in Pretoria on 24 February at the Voortrekker Monument before hitting Cape Town on 28 February at the Green Point A Track and will include support by South Africa’s biggest rock legacy acts. Pretoria fans can look forward to a full day of head-banging, rocking tunes from 12pm to midnight.

Fans will be taken on a musical journey of their vast career, spanning over 20 years of hits and crowd favourites.

Since their formation in 1991, the band continues to evolve with every album launched, growing their cult following and impressive award collection over the decades.  With worldwide album sales exceeding 23 million, numerous #1 hits on the Billboard chart, including “Drive”, “Megalomaniac”, “Anna-Molly”, and “Love Hurts” they have graced the stages of festivals around the globe and toured with the likes of Linkin ParkOutKastQueens of the Stone Age and many more.

Incubus has never shied away from experimenting with other genres of music, infusing them into their staple rock. “As a band, we’re collectively interested in challenging ourselves and hopefully finding new, innovative ways of writing music,” says lead vocalist Brandon Boyd. “That ethos has kept things interesting for us.”

At the same time, fans can look forward to a sense of nostalgia when listening to select songs from their latest album, as Incubus has returned to their heavier rock roots. Listen out for tunes like “Nimble Bastard”, “No Fun” and “Glitterbomb”.

8 is also a special album for the award-winning band as it was co-produced by close friend and musical genius Sonny John Moore, more commonly known as Skrillex. Lead guitarist Mike Einziger says Skrillex’s contribution to the album was both stellar and natural. “It evolved organically out of my friendship with Skrillex,” says Einziger. “Incubus is all about friendship. We transferred the synergy of working together into what the band was doing. As we put the final touches on everything, Skrillex brought another level to the album.”

“When we finished 8, we were flooded with this wave of gratitude,” Boyd says. “The fact that so many people are willing to come on this weird ride with us is really humbling. We’re filled with this sense of awe around it. We’re very happy to share this record with everyone, and we hope they like it.”
