Nerve Zero are breaking the mold while molding a new generation of metalheads. See what they had to say ahead of their performance at Emalyth Art Expo: Nine Lives.
As you are playing the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives let me ask; what is ‘art’ to you? What does it mean and why do we need it?
Art is expression of ones passions through creation. I think it’s amazing that this festival celebrates art in the form of musicians and exhibitions. It’s one of my favourite festivals.
Talk us through the band’s music video, ‘Til Death. What was the concept behind it and why did the band choose to release a music video?
Til death is basically about someone’s internal struggle and how people react when treated badly. The video is one woman’s emotional struggle and the band is trapped within her mind. Eventually she breaks free. We felt it vital that we make our mark within the metal community and what better way than a single along with a video.
Having a female vocalist, does this in anyway change the perception of how the public (especially first time audiences) views the band?
Yes when people first see Nerve Zero perform they cannot believe this voice comes from such a tiny creature. We firmly believe it makes a big difference having a female vocalist and many fans respect Kim’s talents and humility.
How have the endless line-up changes affected the band over the years?
Although having numerous line up changes was frustrating and in fact delayed our emergence into the community it helped mold and shape my bands style and personality. We had various influences with band members and I think it benefited us. Saying that however, I do not like going through line up changes unless totally necessary. I think we have a very tight unit now and we are all great friends too.
What can we expect at the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives show from the band?
We are very eager to perform at Emalyth. The vibe there is always great. We will feed off the crowd’s energy and return it 10 fold. The audience can expect us to give our usual solid performance and will leave them exhausted.

Tell us about one embarrassing moment in the band’s career so far?
I can just think of a time when we were playing different pieces of the same song…perhaps the audience didn’t notice we were playing different parts but to us it’s embarrassing.
