PitVirus is a hard-rocking four-piece “supergroup” from Johannesburg who have been crafting their political, social commentary catchy grooves into a loud protest since 2012. Starting as the brain child of Chris vd Walt of Boargazm and Mark Junius from The Drift, they wrote a couple of ideas that were fresh out of the 90s industrial and punk era and set about making this band a reality.

With enough songs for about two albums, the guys got the attention of Fuzigish drummer Tom Hughes whose style matched the intensity of the music the duo had so far come up with. Now it was time to find the voice that would take the groups sound to the next level, and one man stood out: Dave Owens. one of the most influential vocalists in South African history.

The five songs on this EP are politically driven at a time when South Africans may need it most. It’s no secret that shit is hitting the fan around these parts and a band with a loud voice and the respect these musicians have in the scene will surely raise the fist of unity we all deserve. From ministry-like riffs to lithium-reminiscent grooves, this band will surely be one to look out for in the near future.

My personal favourite is the track “Ugly Show” which has a funky and hard hitting vibe reminiscent of Faith No More.

The production is pretty damn good for an EP. Do check them out, and I can only imagine what their live show must be like.
