MONGREL RECORDS COMPILATION – FANGS – VOL 1

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year and we are just about halfway there, so I believe it is only fair to pat yourself on the back for making it this far. But the battle to keep us alive goes on, and trust our South African music scene to bring us a spirit boost right when things get in deep. A new powerhouse on the rise in the Rock and Metal scene is making a powerful opening statement by gifting us with a care package of songs from our African and South African underground.

Their independent A&R and artist development profile allows them to focus solely on the music while still gaining from South Africa’s leading independent music company, “Just Music’s” artist and label services.

This debut album, titled ‘Fangs’, is a compilation of diverse alternative music from African and (primarily) South African artists. 14 songs from 14 artists, each with their unique flair. With songs from the Prog corner by ‘Savage Lucy’ and ‘Deity’s Muse’, all the way to mean and melodic metal with tracks from Borgasm and Rhakshah. This first volume showcases a snippet of the ever-growing scene on this side of the world. Bands like such have shared the stage with internationals both here and abroad, on tours and festivals such as Wacken.

Combining the roots of African tradition in a metal medium, they are able to tell unique elaborate stories that are quite captivating.

A few familiar favorites here to play ball are the ‘Hellcats’, ‘The Drift’, and ‘The Truth and it’s Burden’. This small, but detailed catalog of bands brings our evolving community, proving that we are more alike than different. Each song in this compilation is merely an entry point to each band’s fuller story. Truly, a great way to get more familiar with the men and women making waves in the scene.

The title of this album speaks for itself. It is a fierce introduction to our rock and metal community, but only a cheeky taste of what we as a community are about. As we all desperately long to feel the sweat that is the ‘pit’, I believe that we have a great opportunity to grow as a community like never before, while still wearing (or not), our pj’s. By listening, sharing, liking, commenting, and contributing to the madness that is our brutal scene, we keep the fire in all of us ablaze. So like goodies under your shirt, let’s show the world our fangs!
