They’ve only been together for one year but they are ready to destroy… See what Disarmageddon had to say ahead of their performance at Emalyth Art Expo: Nine Lives.

As you are playing the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives let me ask; what is ‘art’ to you? What does it mean and why do we need it?

Nick – Art is a way of expressing yourself where words can’t always speak.

Matt – Art is the most organic form of self-expression, a means of catharsis for one’s imagination, emotions and ideas.

Jay – Art has always been my way of expressing my inner thoughts on reality.

Dez – Art is self-expression that shows someone’s true emotions and feelings within themselves and around them. We need art to make us feel alive and free, to help escape from reality and enjoy a specific moment of creativity.

Ash – Art is a form of expression. It’s something that represents freedom and an escape from reality into one’s own reality or a way of showing people the world through the artist’s eyes. We all interpret different forms of art in our own way, so there is never just one way to look at something which is artistic.

The band is quite young in terms of origin – how have things been going since inception?

Nick – Since the beginning we had a mission; to do our own thing and not to conform to the norm and just make the music we like.

Matt – Since inception we have had nothing but positive vibes and fun. We are all good friends and everyone in the band gels well together on stage as well as off. We are just going to continue to grow as a musical unit and keep shredding the old school thrash.

Jay – Since inception everything has been going well. Chemistry is good with the members and everyone is happy.

Dez – Things in the band have been going amazing and I can feel the progression.

Ash – We’ve only been together as Disarmageddon for 1 year now. Even though we’ve been/are part of other bands, things have been going really well thus far. We’ve been gigging as much as possible and working towards getting our name established in the scene.14435174_1080059635448151_5630121308006018306_o

How have the public responded to thrash metal?

Nick – The people were amazed as no one is really doing what we do; like some guy once told us, “… a lil fresh air between all the death and black metal…”.

Matt – At all of our shows we have had very energetic crowds and loads of positive feedback; even when we play early slots. I think people were starting to get a bit swamped by the multitude of extreme bands and just want to thrash out to some old school stuff again.

Jay – The public have responded epically, they head-bang their faces off whenever we hit the stage regardless of what time we play.

Dez – The public really enjoy it and have taken to it really well.

Ash – Much better than I expected. SA isn’t well known for the few thrash metal bands that are present in the scene, as it is mostly overshadowed by the many death metal, black metal, metalcore and other extreme forms of metal bands. We’ve somehow managed to get the attention of some thrashers in the scene who are obviously hungry to see some thrash metal.

Can we expect any singles/album releases for 2017?

Nick – Album? It might just be possible, we just gotta sort out the logistics.

Matt – We have a lot of new material we have been writing and as soon as we have finalized arrangements we shall get tracking. The release will definitely be this year.

Jay – Hell yes! 100% independently produced.

Dez – I hope so haha!

Ash – We’re really keen to release some material in the near future. We have plentiful supply of songs, so it’s a matter of getting things done.

What can we expect at the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives show from the band?

Nick – You can expect a lot of partying with us, and thrash. Just thrash hahaha.

Matt – Expect the iron clouds to rain down atomic radioactive steel; spawning nuclear cataclysmic interference upon all those caught in the radius of our high voltage metal storm!!!

Jay – You can expect rapid drums, shredding guitar solos, ripping bass and ultimate riffing speedy grooves, all topped with soaring vocals.

Dez – A performance that will truly blow people away and excite those looking for some old school metal and to have an amazing time.

Ash – If you’ve seen Disarmageddon in the past, you’re in for a treat. We’ve been working on newer material and we’re going to be debuting these songs at the Arts Expo. If you haven’t seen us yet, then get ready for us to tear you a new one!

Slayer or Megadeth?

Nick – Megadeth.

Matt – …Nuclear Assault!

Jay – Flotsam and Jetsam, man!

Dez – Slayer.

Ash – Both…duh!

Rum or Whiskey?14481987_1080059925448122_7665640617738809220_o

Nick – Rum!

Matt – Can’t afford either haha!

Jay – Whiskey.

Dez – Whiskey!

Ash – Rum… argh matey!

Who is most likely to be on their phones at practice?

Nick – Jay is the phone addict haha.

Matt – Jay.

Jay – Being on the phone at practice is probably me because that’s where I save the lyrics, haha!

Dez – Jay.

Ash – Jay.

Who is most likely to get lost with a map and compass?

Nick – Desmond would get lost if it wasn’t for his girlfriend.

Matt – Desmond disappears quite often and we can’t find him, haha!

Jay – Getting lost? Desmond hahaha.

Dez – Me!

Ash – Desmond.

Who has the longest hair?

Nick – Longest hair? Desmond.

Matt – Between Ash and Desmond.

Jay – Nick, hahaha!

Dez – Ash I think.

Ash – Desmond.

Who takes the most amount of time to setup their gear?

Nick – Gear setup? You guessed it, Desmond. It’s always the drummers haha.14435287_1080059642114817_1465523436994544609_o

Matt – Desmond and Nick because they have the most equipment.

Jay – Dez and Nick.

Dez – Me.

Ash – Desmond… Drummers (psssht!)

Who is most likely to forget the music notes/lyrics?

Nick – Jay can sometimes forget lyrics, Desmond sometimes forgets the structures of the songs because of all the action on stage haha!

Matt – Jay has forgotten lyrics for new songs once or twice and Nick forgets to tune his guitar! Just kidding haha.

Jay – Myself with lyrics sometimes and with notes – Desmond, maybe Nick.

Dez – Me probably.

Ash – Jay… Vocalists (tsk!)

Tell us about one embarrassing moment in the band’s career so far

Nick – When Jay bumped into my guitar neck by accident and the next song I played was so out of tune everyone could hear it! And while tuning, the band just started the next song haha.

Matt – During one of my guitar solos at our last gig I hit a note out of key and it sounded like wizards being tortured.

Jay – Embarrassing for me when I forgot some lyrics at the end of our one song “Zero Hour” but pretended nothing was wrong by improvising random lyrics.

Dez I’m not sure.

Ash – We played an instrumental song at one of our gigs. Jay mistakenly bumped into Nick’s guitar and it went out of tune. All of Nick’s guitar parts were out of tune for the rest of the song and the audience looked confused.
