Satirical, speedo-wearing Satanic Dagga Orgy, offer a unique contribution to the South African music and comedy scene. This Semi-acoustic 5-piece teaches us not to take life so seriously with their happy-go-lucky tunes and hilarious stage antics. See what is going down in Dagga town ahead of their performance at A Place In The Sun.
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to chat to us! So you guys are no strangers to the festival stage, do you have anything exciting planned for your performance at A Place In The Sun?
We’re hoping to get some sun on our places that don’t get out much. Of course, with us that is pretty difficult, so I guess – smaller speedos? We’ll also be releasing a new song or two, and generally having a jol that we invite you all to be a part of. .
You guys have released some hilarious songs about ISIS and our president, making fun of a bad situation. So we want to know, what are your views on the US election and will we ever hear a satirical Trump vs Hilary tune?
As much as we’d like to think that Trump Vs Hillary doesn’t impact us, it does – and a small part of us hopes Trump wins, because we could write a whole concept album about that orange butthole. Maybe we’ll do a once-off hip-hop track with our side project, The Satanic Dagga OGs.
That being said, are there any new songs in the works at all or tour plans? What does the future hold for you guys?
New songs, new merch, new tours and possibly a full-length album, we’re still deciding on what 2017 is going to be about – besides more lekkerness. Maybe we’ll buy Schivas. No. No we won’t. Maybe we’ll hire Justin though. Mainly we want to play more festivals and jol in new places – are you reading this, Small Town South Africa? We also plan on causing at least one social media outrage a month, you know, to stay relevant with the kids
If you were to collaborate with anyone of the acts on the A Place In The Sun lineup, who would it be and why?
This is a tough question. There are so many amazing bands on the lineup. We’re honoured to even play with them. Maybe Black Math? That could be pretty kickass. Otherwise, Bongeziwe, Grassy Spark or BCUC. Any of those would be sexy as hell
A Place In The Sun is four solid days of partying, what advice would you give festival-goers who want to maintain their party stamina?
1. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
2. Don’t be a poes, be lekker – if you’re lekker and suddenly find yourself in a not-lekker situation, your previous lekkerness will encourage other people to help get you out of the kak.
3. Drink water, but don’t waste it. We’re in a heatwave, and not only because of the FIRE lineup at A Place In The Sun, so stay cool but use only what you need
4. Embrace new things – new bands, new friends, new experiences, life is there to be lived – and festivals are filled with like-minded people ready to jol. Do it!
What would you like to see/see more of at South African festivals?
Shade. And a more relaxed attitude towards ganja. More jols, less drols.
