Darkly delicious, Polar Dust, are always a pleasure to watch on stage.… See what they had to say ahead of their performance at Emalyth Art Expo: Nine Lives.
As you are playing the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives let me ask; what is ‘art’ to you? What does it mean and why do we need it?
Art is an expression of one’s self more often that not the truest expression of the people creating it. Be it music, drawing, painting, photography. Art should effect people, light a fire, encourage thought and influence and inspire people.
Talk us our through the concept behind the music video for Dose Of My Dark Side. Also why did the band choose to release a music video and how has it been received so far?
The concept behind this video was inspired by an american gothic feel and bringing an evolved side to Gothic Rock. This music video is part 3 of a trilogy. A moving picture that tells a story, is always more gripping and memorable. The video has explored the human psyche of Stockholm syndrome where the main character at this point of the story has developed this state of mind, falling in love with her captor yet changing her mind in the end when a glimpse of freedom presents itself.
As with all of Polar Dust’s music we explore the different levels of human psyche in our lyrics. Our thoughts observed as we go through the difficulties of solving life’s challenges and riddles.
People generally are more visually stimulated than through audio only. The 3 Polar Dust songs for the trilogy concept were chosen by the director/cinematographer Jacque Oldfield (“The Dykumentary” and “The Cutter”)
In terms of touring locally and abroad; are Polar Dust aiming to play in new venues and new audiences in 2017?
We are definitely looking at putting a Cape Town tour together for this year, and of course we would love to tour abroad, nothing wrong with dreaming big. Having said that there are such great venues here for example Wolmer, Rumours, Sundownerrs etc. that have always been great to us so we always enjoy playing them. As for new venues, we always enjoy playing somewhere new and we would like to play to as many new people as possible, we have always said that even if we only make a few new fans in the crowd, we consider it a show well played.
What can we expect at the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives show from the band?
We always take pride in our stage show and look, so you can expect a high energy despite the heat! [laughs] tight and darkly delicious show from us. Playing with all the other amazing bands and being a more niche genre than the others, we will be going all out to blow everyone away.
Lastly, what new releases/singles can we expect from Polar Dust?
We are currently working on new music, Polar Dust is evolving as band and we can’t wait to share the new stuff with everyone. Stay tuned!
