Deadline will not disappoint and will deal with the naysayers accordingly…. See what they had to say ahead of their performance at Emalyth Art Expo: Nine Lives.

As you are playing the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives let me ask; what is ‘art’ to you? What does it mean and why do we need it?

Art to me is a diverse range of human activities that create visual, auditory or performing works. It expresses the imagination of the protagonist and it very generally feeds ones soul or appeals to one’s emotional self. We need it cause we gotta keep feeding our soul! Constantly!

What has been Deadline’s highlight since inception?

The biggest highlight is just getting on stage every night and bringing our brand of old school 80’s heavy metal to the crowds who are somewhat starved of this glorious genre! There are specific shows that do stand out but I hate singling any out as getting up on stage is our lifeblood and always our career highlight.

Is the band still a little fussed about the debacle surrounding the rigged votes for the opening act of Iron Maiden?

I think deep inside we will always be a tad disappointed about it but a few days after that show it was business as usual. You cannot allow yourself to linger over negative things. The sun will always shine tomorrow! That’s always been my motto. In a strange way losing that ‘battle’ was actually good for us. We received so much support from so many people across various scenes and we became reasonably well heard of within the scene since then. It was always going to be a bit of a poisoned chalice and losing this ‘battle’ launched us in a way.15369016_1802773723270396_5607979408323932136_o

Tell us what has been the biggest lesson that the band has learned over the years?

HAHA well…never enter ‘Battle of the Bands’! Nah…this is gonna sound clichéd but the biggest lesson we have learnt is to be resilient and just keep working harder and harder for what we believe in. We put a hell of a lot of time in that band room! Respect your product! Value your product and the people will respect and value your product too.

What can we expect at the Emalyth Arts Expo: Nine Lives show from the band?

Well for starters a typical high tempo, high energy and passionate Deadline display. We are also working furiously to see if we can debut a new song at Emalyth. Other than that there are one or two surprises we have up our sleeves but you’ll have to wait until Emalyth to find out!

Lastly, in terms of releases, what can we expect in 2017?

We are going into the studio in February/March to commence recording our debut album which we hope will be ready by latest Spring. Thereafter we aim to do a full S.A. tour to coincide with its launch. We are itching to get down to Durban and Cape Town for a little thrash down! 15419601_1802772593270509_8187376759080530019_o

Quickfire questions:

Mint OR Strawberry

Baz has the sweet tooth…I think he would say ‘why not mint with strawberry and chocolate and vanilla?’ Baz doesn’t discriminate with sweet stuff!

Star Wars OR Star Trek

Lord Of The Rings

Who won’t put the toothpaste lid back on after use?

Skullprit! Skullprit for sure!

Who is most likely to get caffeine high?

Raven Chaos! Our resident coffee connoisseur/snob!

Who takes the most amount of time to set up their gear?

Oooh this is a tricky one…I would guess Dizzy but he also has the most high grade of jobs…setting up the drums. Bless him!

Who is most likely to forget their music notes/lyrics?

HAHA…we don’t kiss and tell! We deal with it accordingly in the band room!

Tell us about one embarrassing moment in the band’s career so far?

This one falls on me! HAHA! We played a show at Club Rad when we first started and I was still in Gunship, my previous band! We started the show off with and bang and on the changeover between song 1 and song 2 I screamed at the top of my lungs…’We Are The Gunship!’ within seconds I looked like a bloody beetroot and replied…”No we’re not, but we could have been…’ Raven Chaos didn’t let me live that one down for weeks to come.
