Red Helen are no strangers to The Metalist za or the festival stage. So to those who know these melodic metalcore legends, we have managed to squeeze out some updates with regards to the album, and to those who don’t know them, check out your personal party invitation to their set at Woodstock SA.

But wait, there’s more! Find out how Woodstock ’69 changed everything and why naked stage diving is a bad idea!

Red Helen: Hi there! First of all we just want to say thanks for the interview and to everyone who reads it.

Thanks for taking the time out to do this! So you guys have said that your album will finally be released this September, is that still an accurate statement?

Unfortunately we’ve once again run into some hold ups with the album, so I don’t think we can expect a September release. Being our debut album, the last thing we want to do is rush the process. We’ve taken a lot of time making this album happen, but we’re really happy with the results and we can’t wait to share it with our friends and fans!

We recently received some awesome news that the mixing process is almost done. Once that’s finished, we’ll send the album to be mastered, and once we’ve sent it for mastering we’ll have a better idea of when we can release it. Thank you to our extended family of fans for your patience! We’ll have a definitive release date for you soon!

You guys have also teamed up with the Monster Energy team and have talked about filming a new music video, what can you tell us about that?

Yeah! The awesome people at Monster Energy recently contacted us and invited us into their family. We’re psyched to be involved with such an awesome company and excited to see what the future holds with them. They’re going to be helping us out in ways we never dreamed of and we’re really grateful for their support and belief in what we do.DSC_5053

In regards to the music video, we’ve been working on some concepts and figuring out what exactly it is that we want to say with the video. We’ll be filming that soon and releasing it around the time of the album launch.

Are there any tour plans or is there anything special planned for the album release when it finally happens?

We’re definitely going to do a nation-wide tour when we drop the album. We haven’t been able to book any shows due to the uncertainty of our release date but we’ll start booking venues as soon as we have a confirmed date. We’ll also be releasing the music video as well as some other cool content in the next few months. Once again, we want to thank all of our fans for their patience. We’re itching to share what we’ve been working on with you guys!

What can people who don’t know you, expect to see/hear from your set at Woodstock SA?

People can expect to see some orchestrated insanity on-stage (and hopefully off-stage too)! We’ve been trying not to book too many shows so that we could focus on getting this album done once and for all, so we’re all amped as hell to get back on stage. People can expect to see an energetic performance of fast paced, progressive metal-core. To anyone who’s reading DSC_5017this interview and hasn’t seen us before, come hang out with us on Friday night to see for yourself what we’re all about.

When you hear the word Woodstock, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Definitely Woodstock ’69! Probably the most iconic festival of all time. There were over four hundred thousand people at that one festival! Plus it played a huge part in the counter culture revolution of the sixties that completely changed western culture!

What would you do if people embraced the traditional Woodstock custom of being naked throughout the festival, how would it affect your show?

I guess we’d just have to get naked too! (Kidding, we jump around way too much on stage, nobody wants to see that!) Hmmm… Mosh-pits and crowd surfing while naked could be a little awkward… Picture the sweaty balls of a crowd surfer whose naked body is being carried towards a pit full of more naked bodies running into each other at high speed. Or a wall of naked death… DSC_5239

Woodstock SA has a wide range of musical styles that will be showcased, is there anyone outside of your genre that you are keen to see?

Absolutely! The line-up for this fest is crazy! It’s just going to be tough to narrow down which band to see when there are so many artists playing at the same time. We all enjoy a wide variety of musical genres so we’re really excited to be part of such an eclectic line-up.

Here are some of the highlights we’re looking forward to:  You, Me and the Harmony, Climate Control, Satanic Dagga Orgy, Man As Machine, Made For Broadway, Crash Car Burn, PH PHat, I AM and Newtown Knife Gang among many others… Plus Riddlebreak and Facing the Gallows (I know they’re technically in our genre but either way, they’re incredible bands and we’re amped to see them).

Unfortunately due to us all having day jobs, we won’t be able to be there on the Thursday, but to anyone who can get off work, I highly recommend getting there on Thursday to check out the amazing acts on the Four Seasons Stage (Gunslinger, Only Forever, Nic Rush and Bombs & Issues).

Once again, thanks for the interview! Catch you guys at Woodstock!
