Bring to Bear certainly make a memorable entrance with their first single. When I saw the phrase “for fans of Nightwish, Korpiklaani & Epica” being uttered, I knew this would be a band I would enjoy, and they certainly did not disappoint!

Immediately, the song captivates us with powerful guitars and accordion in a much more serious tone than is often heard in folk metal. The Shadow Ruse takes us on a dark symphonic journey of musings about the relationship of dark and light. Questioning the perception of good vs bad and how something can be good or bad from different perspectives. The contrast of the singing and growling vocals further emphasises this concept. The perfect fusion of strong guitar riffs, accordion, and symphonic keyboards make this song catchy, without being cheesy. Don’t get me wrong, I love my cheesy symphonic metal, but I feel as though people who are not as into symphonic and folk metal can still appreciate Bring to Bear because of this.

Bring to Bear is definitely a band that should be on your radar if you’re into symphonic and folk metal. I’m excited to hear more from them! Their debut EP is set to be released later this year, so stay tuned.
